[... on brett favre]

Recent speculation about Brett Favre joining the Vikings seems to have reached a sickening fever pitch.  The fact that any Vikings fan can honestly consider him a valuable addition to a team with deep playoff aspirations shows unfathomable ignorance of the facts:  FAVRE IS FINISHED.  DONE.  THE TRAIN HAS STOPPED.  No good can come from inviting the four-ring circus that is Brett Favre and his consecutive-starts record into our fair city.

This has nothing to do with his ex-Packerdom.  As much as I hated the guy when he played against us, he was an awesome quarterback for a long time.  There is no denying his talent, or his Hall-of-Fame credentials.  But the idea that he can carry the Vikings on a deep playoff run, at this stage of his career, is beyond absurd.

If emotional appeals aren't your type of thing, I offer the following statistical evidence as exhibits A and B.

[cross-post from ESPN.com]

In case some of you weren't paying attention last year, Favre's performance over the stretch run of the season was abysmal. He was outperformed by the one and only Tarvaris Jackson over the final four weeks of the season. Go look it up.

FAVRE's QB RATINGS, WK 14-17: 60.8, 61.4, 48.7, 45.1
FAVRE's TD-INT, WK 14-17: 2 TD to 8 INT

JACKSON's QB RATINGS, WK 14-17: 143.8, 135.5, 98.5, 88.5
JACKSON's TD-INT, WK 14-17: 8 TD to 1 INT

Look, I don't care what this guy's accomplished in his career. It's over. As a Vikings fan, I would HATE to suffer through that kind of play from a broken down shell of a Hall of Fame-caliber quarterback. He cost the Jets dearly in their playoff run. He cost Mangini his job.

If the Tarsagis Jacksonfels experiment fails, Childress will be looking for work. At least he would be doing it on terms of his own choosing, with players he attempted to groom himself.

The thought of Favre in purple is repulsive, and I can't believe any fan who watched him with the Jets last year thinks he could possibly be of help to the Vikings if they have any serious ambition at all. It doesn't matter what the alternatives are... keep him away from my Vikings.
