[urban exploring, part one]

Once upon a time, Ryan and I got it in our heads to just wander around some area of Minneapolis/St. Paul sort of near Dinkytown.  For the life of me, I can't remember exactly where it is, but in our travels that day, we had a unique experience.  From a footbridge on some path in some park somewhere, we could see a huge building being demolished by an enormous wrecking ball in the near distance.  It was uncaptured by cameras or cell phones.  I only remember it because, well, I remember how improbable it was that we would get to see something like that when out randomly wandering in an unfamiliar area.

That day was the birth of Urban Exploring, courtesy of Unit Five Global Headquarters.

On a whim, we decided today would be a wonderful day for some urban exploring.  Armed only with cameras and wallets, we wandered the streets of downtown Minneapolis.  There was no map or agenda to follow, only minutes on minutes to kill.

While some of the pictures may seem repetitive in nature, my hope is to have a huge collection of these types of skyward shots in order to make a mosaic or collage of some sort out of them.

Our total travel time was around four hours, and we probably walked an easy seven or eight miles over that time.  Our journey started around 6:30 PM near the Federal Reserve Bank and the Hennepin Avenue Bridge.

The infamous Grain Belt sign, facing south on the Hennepin Bridge.

Where the graffiti art ends and the city begins?

Twins' Stadium, from east side.  This would be somewhere out in right field if my math is correct.  Don't hold me to it, though.

Love this sign.  No idea why.

A lot going on here.

The journey back to the car was epic.  No route specifics can be given, but many fences and ladders were scaled in the process.
